Modeling of "Taq" and "Dhajji Dewari" timber frame with masonry infill construction systems

~RANDOLPH LANGENBACH~

In "Don't Tear It Down!" Langenbach, argues that the heritage buildings of Kashmir can be an armature on which to rebuild pride of place after years of civil unrest.  This is  framed by the capacity of the best examples of Kashmiri traditional construction to resist earthquakes.  In modeling "Taq" and "Dhajji Dewari", which are similar to the Haitian Gingerbread "Columbage" construction system, this book documents an often ignored architectural heritage and construction tradition.

"Preserving Haiti's Gingerbread Houses, the World Monument's Fund 2010 Earthquake Mission Report", authored by Langenbach with others, documents Port au Prince's Gingerbread houses, including mapping, photographic documentation, a damage survey database, condition and repair analysis, conservation strategies, and community workshops to advance the revitalization process.
