~MASONRY & BAMBOO TI-KAY CONSTRUCTION~

These hybrid bamboo and masonry building envelope and structure technologies were first explored in a series of workshops in Berkeley California that included Bruce King, Bob Theis, Kevin Rowell, and Dan Smith among others.  The finishing work is also significant, as it manifests and celebrates the identity of Haitian Kreyol places.  Interior and exterior finishes include earth and lime plasters.

These materials are locally available, and readily maintained.  Special finishing details for the small house are hand crafted.  Plaster relief patterns and vivid, saturated paint colors express personality and character. Other details include handmade wood paneled doors and ventilation shutters, and wrought iron specialties, including door hardware and crowning “Veve” roof finials.
