Soil vs. compost ("black gold")                                                            Ecosan toilets

~SOIL~

Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods (SOIL) is a  non-profit organization dedicated to protecting soil resources, empowering communities and transforming wastes into resources in Haiti. SOIL holds that the path to sustainability is through transformation, of both disempowered people and discarded materials, turning apathy and pollution into valuable resources.

SOIL's EcoSan (ecological sanitation) is a low-cost approach to sanitation where human wastes are collected, composted and recycled for use in agriculture and reforestation. It simultaneously addresses many of Haiti’s most pressing issues: improving public health, increasing agricultural productivity, mitigating environmental degradation, and providing low-cost sanitation.
