Birds Eye View, from Port au Prince Downtown Reconstruction Plan

~DPZ ARCHITECTS~

Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater Zyberk have been active in the Haiti reconstruction work since  just after the earthquake, when  Duany developed designs for emergency shelter cabins.  In March 2010, Plater Zyberk, Dean of the Architecture School at the University of Miami,  facilitated a Charrette that looked at Haiti from a regional planning perspective.

In January 2011,  in partnership with the Prince Charles Foundation for the Built Environment, and Paul Crabtree Engineering, DPZ outlined plans for Downtown Port au Prince, with a comprehensive approach to infrastructure, private buildings, civic facilities, implementation and regulation.  Although designated the preferred plan by President Martelly and other critical stakeholders, approval of a Downtown plan is still pending full public review of the DPZ and other proposals.
